Savoury Braai Pap with Ace Phuthu Super Maize Meal


  • 2 cups Ace Phuthu Super Maize Meal
  • 1½ cups of water
  • 2 heaped tablespoons of chicken stock powder
  • 1 teaspoon Mixed Herbs
  • Pinch of salt
  • 100g butter or margarine
  • 2 tins Koo Mixed Vegetable in Brine
  • Braai meat or chicken to eat with the savoury phuthu pap
  • Koo Chakalaka to serve as a side dish


  1. In a large pot, bring water to a boil on high heat
  2. Add the salt, butter or margarine and Mixed Herbs
  3. Boil together until the butter or margarine melts
  4. Add the Ace Phuthu Super Maize Meal – DO NOT STIR
  5. Place a lid on the pot and reduce the heat on the stove to medium
  6. Cook for 1 to 2 minutes then stir thoroughly until crumbly with a fork or wooden spoon
  7. Place the lid back onto the pot and simmer for 20 to 25 minutes stirring occasionally
  8. Drain the brine from the Koo Mixed Vegetables
  9. Add the Koo Mixed Vegetables to the pot, stir it through and allow to simmer for a few minutes
  10. Serve with your savoury phuthu pap as a side dish, with braai meat or chicken and Koo Chakalaka
