Boerewors Chakalaka Tart With Quick Cook Super Maize Meal
Ingredients
- 2 cups Ace Quick Cook Super Maize Meal
- 4½ cups of water
- 500g of boerewors
- 1 tin of Koo Chakalaka
- 1 medium size onion, cut into onion rings
- 1 teaspoon of dried paprika spice
- ½ teaspoon of dried mixed herbs
- 1 teaspoon of fresh crushed garlic
- 2 cups of grated cheddar or gouda cheese
- Salt and pepper to taste
Method
- Bring the water to boil in a pot
- Add the Ace Super Maize Meal to the boiling water
- Mix it well with whisk to avoid lumps
- Turn the stove to a medium heat
- Add 1 cup of the grated cheese
- Allow to simmer for 10 minutes
- Set aside and allow to cool completely
Boerewors and Chakalaka Filling
- Put the boerewors in a frying pan – keep the spiral shape of the boerewors, do not cut up the boerewors
- Fry the boerewors for 10 minutes on each side, on medium heat until the boerewors is brown on each side
- Add the onion rings and fresh crushed garlic to the boerewors and fry until the onions are golden brown
- Add the Koo Chakalaka to the boerewors and onion mixture
- Add the paprika and mixed herbs
- Add salt and pepper to taste
- Simmer on low to medium heat for 10 minutes
Tart assembly
- In a flat glass bowl – oval, round or square in shape, press a layer of the cooked pap in the bottom and along the sides of the bowl to create a “crust” or tart base
- Add the spiral of cooked boerewors with the chakalaka gravy
- Add a layer of pap to cover the spiral of cooked boerewors with the chakalaka gravy
- Add the remaining grated cheese on top
- Preheat the oven to 200 degrees Celsius (bake function)
- Bake the Boerewors Chakalaka Tart with Ace Quick Cook Super Maize Meal in the preheated oven until the cheese melts – alternatively, place the Boerewors Chakalaka Tart with Ace Quick Cook Super Maize Meal into the microwave oven and cook it on high heat until the cheese melts
- Serve warm
